Spotify Playlists to Improve Productivity
Dr. Amit Sood, a physician of integrative medicine with the Mayo Clinic, told The New York Times, “In biological terms, melodious sounds help encourage the release of dopamine in the reward area of the brain, as would eating a delicacy, looking at something appealing or smelling a pleasant aroma.”
How Music Affects Productivity
For the longest time I thought of myself as someone who could not be productive at work while listening to music. I’m not sure if easy access to vast musical collections via streaming or time changed that for me, yet something has shifted. Now I play music roughly half of my work days–and I believe it improves my productivity as well as makes for a jollier disposition.
I thought I would share my favorite productivity-improving music playlists. With music being so very personal, I hope you find at least a few neurotransmitter-pleasing songs to add to or to start creating your own collections.

I find slow and mellow sounds like Spotify’s own Winter Acoustics & A Beautiful Mellow Mind a splendid match to make repetitive tasks more enjoyable. I sometimes skip over those built on a foundation of minor chords, as I find major chord scales more uplifting.
Music for Focus and Writing Assignments
Music to Improve Productivity for Design Endeavors
Whether it be in the Adobe suite or within PowerPoint, music with lyrics or new music such as French Cafe Accordion Music help me to design. I suspect the surprise elements jiggle my brain a bit to wrestle up a bit of innovation.
When silence is not your work companion, what music are you listening to at work?
